Event Captains

Event Captains are part of the Drury Lane family with the main focus of providing excellent customer service and accommodating guest needs throughout any and all types of events while ensuring guests’ happiness and staying upbeat while on the job.

 Position Designation:

Immediate Supervisor(s): Erald Ktona

 Event Captain Position Purpose and Objectives:

Drury Lane Event Captains must be highly motivated individuals with a positive, can-do attitude; great problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail; and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They must hold themselves to the highest industry standards and play a supporting role to other staff members and upper management. All captains must have the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment; champion safety protocols; and hold others accountable to safety, quality, cleanliness, and organization standards. It is the captains’ responsibility to provide strong customer service by listening to guest and employee comments or complaints and responding accordingly.

 Specific Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Setting patron tables and buffet areas.

  • Ensuring all dishes and utensils are clean before use.

  • Setting service stations.

  • Circulating the room with appetizers and beverages.

  • Greeting and assisting guests as they enter.

  • Providing high quality and efficient food and drink service.

  • Replenishing buffet food items.

  • Refilling beverages.

  • Responding to questions, complaints, and requests throughout the event.

  • Removing dirty dishes and utensils from tables and returning them to the dishwasher area.

  • Maintaining cleanliness throughout the entire event and cleaning up messes or spills when necessary.

  • Adhering to all safety and quality standards.

  • Reading and understanding Events contracts.

 Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Monitoring employees’ work habits and ensuring tasks are completed in a timely fashion.

  • Playing a supporting role to other staff members to ensure guest satisfaction and efficient service.

  • Staying focused and helping to keep team members motivated.

  • Ensuring employees follow safety, quality, cleanliness, and organization standards and keep work areas clean and organized.

  • Overseeing employee side work.

  • Ensuring minimal waste.

  • Ensuring all equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

  • Acting as a first responder to guests’ questions, issues, and concerns.

  • Responding quickly and practically to emergencies, crises, or unexpected problems during a shift.

  • Coordinating proper service timing and conveying special instructions to the kitchen and bar when necessary.

  • Keeping upper management informed of daily event operations, including food counts, food delivery times, and event timeline notes.

  • Providing management with edits and improvements when needed.

  • Providing pertinent follow-up information to ensure quality service standards are met with every event.

  • Helping to ensure proper training of new employees.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Illinois Food Handlers Certification.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a server preferred.

  • CPR training beneficial but not required.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Ability to lift and carry 25+ lbs.

  • Ability to meet physical demands and stay on your feet for long periods of time.

Event Server Position Purpose and Objectives:

Event Servers are under the direct supervision of the Event Managers and/or Event Captains on duty that day. Event Servers are responsible for being courteous and attentive to all guests, possessing excellent customer service and communication skills, ensuring proper service, anticipating guests’ needs, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards to ensure a clean and tidy work area. They must also be light on their feet, energetic, efficient, and hardworking with good memory retention and quick-thinking skills.

Box Office Associate

Position Designation: Variable – Hourly

Immediate Supervisors: Box Office Manager and Assistant Box Office Manager

Direct Supervisor: Managing Director and Director of Operations

Job Description

Under the Direct Supervision of the Box Office Manager and Assistant Box Office Manager, Box Office Associates are responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all guests, vendors and patrons.  Duties include assisting all customers with subscription, single ticket and dining purchases via telephone and in person.  Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, and a passion for live entertainment and fine dining. Box Office Associates must be able to work in a bustling, fast-paced environment. Daytime, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are required. All Box Office Associates must undergo background checks.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all Drury Lane patrons receive superior customer service.
  • Assist customers with ticket purchases and exchanges via telephone and in-person at the Box Office window.
  • Assist current Subscribers with the processing of subscription renewals, including change orders. Assist new Subscribers with the purchase of season subscriptions.
  • Address customer questions and/or concerns with patience, care and exceptional customer service.
  • Handle cash and sensitive payment information.
  • Effectively communicate with patrons on the phone and in person about Drury Lane Theatre, Lucille Restaurant, and Drury Lane’s Events department.
  • Assist patrons with their Drury Lane Account Manager, the Drury Lane website, and Ticketmaster.com.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong listening, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Positive, customer-focused attitude
  • Desire to learn, grow, and be part of a team as well as an ability to work independently
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from Oakbrook Terrace, where public transportation is extremely limited
  • Box Office Associates must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk, and speak and listen in-person and via telephone
  • Multilingual candidates encouraged to apply
  • Experience with Ticketmaster preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of live events—knowledge of live theatre preferred but not required

Opportunity:

Drury Lane Theatre is seeking detail oriented, focused individuals who will operate spot lights for our upcoming production of Forever Plaid.  Tech for Forever Plaid start Tuesday, September 13, 2021 and runs through Thursday, September 22, 2021.  The show runs from September 23, 2021-November 7, 2021.

Essential Knowledge Required

  • Must have at least 1 Year of experience as a Follow Spot Operator
  • Must have working knowledge of Theatrical Electrics
  • Must not be afraid of heights
  • Be able to read Spot Que Sheet

Expectation of Position

  • Be available for all of Tech, Requested rehearsals, and Performances
  • See at least one Run Through Prior to Tech Week
  • Be available for 6 hours of maintenance work for the theatre weekly
  • Be able to work in a fast paced environment

Opportunity:

Drury Lane Theatre is seeking a dynamic team player, who loves live theatre and assisting others to work as part of our Theatre Front of House team.  Drury Lane Theatre Front of House Staff are expected to offer the highest level of customer service to guests, visiting artists, management, and patrons,  assuring questions are answered politely, and patrons are seated properly and safely. Theatre Front of House Staff are expected to carry out assigned tasks from management that are within the scope of caring for and maintaining the theatre, customer service and audience experience, pre-show prep, post-show breakdown, guest and staff safety/emergency response/security.

   

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all Drury Lane patrons, guests and staff receive superior customer service.
  • Direct and escort patrons to their seats and provide them with programs and other relevant materials.
  • Follow proper procedures for assisting patrons with disabilities.
  • Visually sweep the theatre to check for potential safety issues, and lost and found items and to assure cleanliness.
  • Enforce appropriate house rules.
  • Attend pre-event Usher meetings and other trainings as required by management.
  • Remain at assigned post throughout the event unless taking an assigned

break.

  • Other duties as assigned.
